The MISSIONof the Hepatitis Research Foundation is to raise funds to support research into the development of a vaccine for HCV and HBV.

Using the guidance of members of a Scientific Advisory Board composed of leading investigators in the field, and the HRF Board of Directors, HRF will foster collaborative efforts to reach these goals by sponsoring small highly interactive meetings, and by the support of research.

For reasons given under RATIONALE, priority will be given to the support of studies which aim to produce an affordable vaccine.

Effective, affordable strategies will, of course, also be made available to those living in the developed world through developed world manufacturers.

Such studies have been pursued by a relatively small number of scientists, due to lack of funding and cost and scarcity of the chimpanzees that are needed for this research. The most exciting results are described in the HCV section of this web site. A major portion of funds raised by the Hepatitis Research Foundation will be devoted to the rapid expansion of the Vaccine approach outlined there.
